Assessment

Assessment is an important part of learning at Adelaide Institute of Higher Education, supporting student development, recognising achievement and helping students understand their academic progress.

Supporting learning, achievement and academic development

Assessment plays a key role in the learning experience at AIHE. It provides opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and skills, demonstrate what they have learned, and evaluate their own academic progress.

Through assessment, students can receive feedback on their learning, demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes and develop the ability to reflect on their work and identify future learning goals.

Assessment plays three important roles

AIHE recognises assessment as an important part of both teaching and learning, with assessment designed to support student learning, recognise achievement and encourage ongoing academic development.

01 — LEARNING

Assessment for Learning

Fostering Learning

Assessment supports and fosters learning by helping students understand their progress, identify areas for improvement and use feedback to strengthen their knowledge and skills.

02 — ACHIEVEMENT

Assessment of Learning

Certification of Learning

Assessment provides evidence of student learning and achievement, helping determine whether students have successfully demonstrated the required learning outcomes.

03 — REFLECTION

Assessment as Learning

Developing Independent Learners

Assessment develops students’ abilities to evaluate their own work, monitor their progress and use that understanding to inform their future learning goals.

Building stronger learning habits

Effective assessment gives students opportunities to understand their academic performance, apply feedback and take greater responsibility for their learning. It supports both immediate learning and longer-term academic development.

Understand Feedback

Use assessment feedback to recognise strengths and identify areas where further development may be needed.

Monitor Progress

Assessment helps students understand how their learning is progressing throughout their course.

Set Future Learning Goals

Reflecting on assessment outcomes can help students establish meaningful goals for continued learning and development.

Assessment and Learning

Supporting your academic progress

Assessment at AIHE supports learning, provides evidence of student achievement and encourages students to evaluate their own progress. Together, assessment for learning, assessment of learning and assessment as learning contribute to a meaningful and effective learning experience.
